Join institutional peers from K-12, 2-year and 4-year institutions to discuss trends in experiential education. They will showcase examples of their exciting work and highlight best practices. This webinar will include the information on assessment in Experiential Learning from why we are doing assessments, what we are assessing to how we use the results. Also, since we have witnessed a renewed focus on quality, we’ll lead the conversation on how work in experiential education aligns with NSEE’s Eight Principles of Good Practice and how the principles come to life.

Jim is the District Superintendent for the Sole Supervisory District, Washington- Saratoga-Warren-Hamilton-Essex Counties and Executive Officer of the Board of Cooperative Educational Services (WSWHE BOCES), headquartered in Fort Edward, NY. Here he serves a dual role: operating a cooperative service for 31school districts in a five-county region in the northeast portion of New York State and serving as the Supervising Officer for the region as the Commissioner of Education’s representative in the field. Jim’s leadership in this position helps districts operate efficiently to educate a wide segment of the population including programs for school age children, management services and adult education, while simultaneously moving State Education Department policies forward. Prior to joining the WSWHE BOCES in 2010, Jim held several educational leadership positions including Superintendent of Schools at the Kinderhook Central School District (also known as the Ichabod Crane Central School District) and Assistant Superintendent for Administration and Special Services at the Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES in Malone, NY. Jim holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the Fredonia School of Music and a Master’s Degree in Educational Psychology from the College of St. Rose. He completed coursework for his School Administrative Certificate at the College of St. Rose and took additional coursework for his School District Certificate at St. Lawrence University.

Vivienne Felix

Vivienne Felix, PhD,
Associate Director, Experiential Learning
New York University, Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development, Office of Global Affairs

Vivienne Felix is the Associate Director of Experiential Learning for the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development at New York University. In this role, she supports faculty and staff who coordinate internships, student teaching, fieldwork, and clinical placements by providing guidance on best practices, coordinating policy development and implementation, and managing data collection across 11 academic departments. Prior to joining NYU, her work touched on high school-to-college transitions, assessment, and experiential education. Additionally, she has taught English to Speakers of Other Languages in both nonprofit and academic settings.

Gina Chase

Gina Chase serves as the Applied Learning and Career Specialist at SUNY Broome Community College, where she is dedicated to supporting community college students in their career readiness journeys. Prior to beginning her career at SUNY Broome in 2015, Gina worked at SUNY Oswego (Residence Life and Housing and the Center for Experiential Learning) after earning her MS in Student Affairs Administration from Binghamton University in 2010.

Chad DeVoe

Chad DeVoe, Environmental Science Facilitator

Chad DeVoe spent his first 11 years in a traditional science classroom leading up to his current role as New Vision Environmental Science Careers facilitator for OCM BOCES in Central New York State for the last 3 years. He coordinates programs at Lime Hollow Nature Center in Cortland, NY where students from up to 8 different school districts learn and experience fields in environmental science, forestry, agriculture, outdoor recreation, and fish and wildlife including industry and college visits and various service learning projects. Chad is a member of the NYS Outdoor Education Association, NYS Master Teacher Program, and active in NYS Agriculture in the Classroom and FFA programming.  He resides outside Ithaca, NY in a small off-grid homestead with his wife and two young daughters.

Nuala Boyle

Nuala S. Boyle, Director of Civic Engagement & Experiential Learning Outcomes
Nazareth College

Nuala Boyle is a leader in the field of community-engaged teaching and learning and has supported the advancement of experiential learning in higher education since 1997. Over the course of her tenure in education, she has both managed multiple institutions’ civic and service-learning centers, the most recent at Nazareth College in Rochester, NY as the inaugural director of the Center for Civic Engagement, holding this role since 2010. Recently she was promoted to Director of Civic Engagement and Experiential Learning Outcomes. She oversees curricular and co-curricular community engagement, the Center for Service-Learning, and co-chairs the Nazareth's Experiential Learning Steering Committee. In collaboration with the director of the core curriculum, Boyle assisted in developing, implementing, and now supports the College’s experiential learning requirement that is part of its core curriculum. Boyle's efforts enabled Nazareth to become nationally recognized for its commitment to civic engagement and experiential education.  In addition to being a member of the Board of Directors for NSEE, Boyle is a graduate of NSEE’s Experiential Education Academy. She earned her B.A. in English from Stonehill College in Boston, MA and her M.A. in Religious Studies from Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, CT.

Nicholas LaMendola

Nick LaMendola, Institutional Research
Nazareth College 

Nicholas LaMendola is currently the Director of Institutional Research at Nazareth College. Since joining the Nazareth College community, in 2006, as a research analyst, LaMendola has been instrumental in creating a data-informed environment for strategic decision-making, planning, and assessment, on campus.  LaMendola has leveraged his background in analytic statistics and predictive modeling to participate with leadership, across divisions, in a number of strategic projects that currently range from student success, retention/graduation, co-curricular and experiential learning, overhaul of the faculty workload model, and administrative assessment, and diversity and inclusion. Central to these efforts is the recent creation of a robust centralized institutional data warehouse from the ground up that is capable of integrating all institutional data from the transactional server with survey data, data from third-party vendors, and experiential data that was previously residing in silos across campus. Prior to arriving at Nazareth, LaMendola was a post-doctoral fellow working in primate research in the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Rochester Medical Center.  LaMendola earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Michigan, his M.A. in Brain & Cognitive Science from the University of Rochester, and his Ph.D. in Psychology from the University of Arizona.
